Car buying in Australia

We have decided to buy a car so that it is easier to have spur of the moment trips out of the city. We also do not want to spend over $4000....but we want something that will not require a disguise to drive because we are too embarrassed by the looks of it.

Dave starts looking on gum tree and finds a white Audi. He makes an appointment to go see it and has a friend who knows all about cars and invites him to come along. All set right? Nope! A half hour before he is supposed to be there, Dave calls to confirm that he is on his way and the guy cancels. So they set up another time and Dave gets his friend to come along again. They show up and there's a black Audi sitting there....well it's not such a great car, so Dave and his friend leave disgusted.

On to the next car. Dave makes arrangements to see a VW Passat and takes his friend along again. It's in a backyard covered with debris from the trees but seems to be in good shape, so Dave talks him down in price a bit and buys it. Next stop is the car wash before he comes back to the apartment. It's just the right size and easy to drive. Now all that's left is to get a little practice and we are all set!

P.S. first solo drive out.....I decided to go to my friend Fern's house. Got there easy as anything. On the way home...not so much. There are a ton of traffic circles here and I got off on the wrong street. Turned around and tried again, wrong one! Ok, that's two out of four! But I was too annoyed with myself and just kept driving on the wrong road. I figured I could always ditch the car and take public transport if the stress got to be too much! Lol. Anyway, driving along and trying to drive in the direction I think our apartment is in.  Luckily I started recognizing street names and then recognizing where I was. So a slight 30 minute detour until I was safely back.
