Today we are going to the Scenic Rim with Bill and Colette. There is supposed to be a lovely winery and lavender field around the town of Boonah. I say supposed to be because sometimes where there should be something, there is nothing or the address is weird in some way. It's always an adventure though and that's why we're here!
We actually do find the winery and restaurant and it was filled with two huge bus loads of Asian tourists, but luckily they were having their dessert by the time we got there. We decided to eat outside right by the lavender field. The view was terrific and a kangaroo hopped right by us in the field. We weren't fast enough with our cameras to catch that picture!
Fantastic food....lovely view...great conversation. While the guys pay, Colette and I go into the lavender shop and pick up some lavender soap and lavender oil. On to the wine tasting....there were a couple of good ones we liked and the gentleman that was serving us was the owner. Older gentleman and we got the feeling this was all a out having a hobby, not a career.
On to the dam where there was supposed to be a wedding....okay we have not turned into wedding crashers, just heard at the winery that the wedding was there and coming to the winery for the reception. We thought it must be pretty impressive in order for someone to have their wedding there. I was thinking Hoover Dam....mmmm, more like my grandparents dam at their farm. Perhaps a little taller, but seriously a sad place to have a wedding. We didn't see anyone there so we snapped a picture and drove on.
Next winery...cars there, dog there, no people. Odd, but not uncommon so we drive on.
Next winery...Normanby wines in Harrisville. We sat outside on the patio at dusk....and the gentleman that served us sat down with us. He had some stories to tell and we were his designated audience. He had been in WWII and how that and the actor Errol Flynn and his start in movies related to wine is a long and somewhat roundabout story...EPIC really. Wines were good and he did serve us two plates of appetizers for free, but with the mossies (mosquitoes) buzzing around we paid in another way! Lol.
