Fire

In an attempt to not alarm, I have not written about the numerous times I have had the pleasure of running down the fire escape sure of a fiery death. I might be exaggerating just a touch..... And to set everyone's mind at ease up front, I'm only 3 stories up and with my balcony overlooking the river I could make the jump to safety if I had to.

In October was the first time. Lots of sirens seeming to come from the street side of the building and the office calling through the intercom system to go outside. No fire perhaps but no electricity and buildings were being evacuated as a precaution.

A few days later after having lunch with Dave at his office the electricity went off there as well and I had the pleasure of walking down 12 flights of stairs to get out. No fire that time either, but no explanation just speculation about power surges.

Last Friday there was serious smoke and fire smell going past my apartment balcony. I went out onto the balcony to see if the people going past on the WaterCat were looking at the building alarmed (they were not) and I called Dave to look out his office window to see if there were flames shooting out of any of the windows (there were not). So I figured I was safe enough. Surely the person who burns his toast at 3am was at work and not stinking up my apartment again, but maybe he was in and had moved on to burning steak or something equally big that could cause this smoke.

Today a full blown fire alarms going off and fire trucks arriving event and people coming down the fire exit doors. Some problem in the lower level car park they assured me. No worries.....

I do have a bag packed with all our important papers, but in order to save them you have to take them with you! One small detail I overlooked as I was grabbing two phones, the iPad, my data source, purse and jacket...oh and where the heck are those keys!!???!! Bloody hell you'd think I didn't have it all together or was thinking about saving the yarn!

Anyway all safe and sound back into the apartment and waiting with bated breath for the next one.....

Cheers! Lovey
